This is legit. The salmon came out looking sharp and tasted just as good. Fresh, clean, done right. We tried the salmon with passion fruit and strawberry — not something I’d normally order — but it worked. The passion fruit blended perfectly. I was surprised. Dulce de leche churros were dangerous. Cool servers. Good music. Great vibe. They’ve got graffiti walls and actually let you tag them. I had fun leaving my mark. I do a lot of work in Essex County, so this is going on my lunch rotation. I’ll hit the Union spot next time I’m out there. Hot rolls with collard greens are next.
The sushi was sooo good and Felipe was so sweet and helpful since it was me and my boyfriends first time. He constantly made sure we had everything and if we wanted anything extra and the sushi tasted so good especially the Tuna and Salmon Sashimi. Would definitely be back
The food was really good. We had a such great time. Cris our waitress she’s very friendly and polite.
I had planned to leave this review for a while. I kept giving chances because, overall, I do like the food — but enough is enough. For the third time, items we ordered from the all-you-can-eat appetizers either never arrived or were “out of stock.” If something is unavailable, that’s fine — just let us know. But not bringing what was ordered happens every single time. Today, the server even held our order list and only brought it after we asked, because I already knew items were missing. There is also a clear error on the sushi menu stating “2 pieces per order,” when in fact it comes with 8 pieces. We were shocked by the amount, and the server admitted it was a menu mistake and assured us we wouldn’t be charged extra if we couldn’t finish. Because I had already expressed my frustration about missing items, the server kindly offered a free dessert, which I declined since I was full. At the end, my husband asked — to avoid waste and since it wasn’t our mistake — if we could take the extra sushi. She checked with the manager and came back saying we would have to pay. To be clear: we did not ask for extra food, and we should not be charged for their menu error. It was apparently easier for them to throw the food away than allow us to take it. What makes this even more disappointing is that we are loyal customers. Unfortunately, this location in Newark has shown repeated lack of organization and respect for its customers. I will not be returning.
One of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. We came in excited to try Brazilian-style sushi for the first time, but the experience was disappointing from start to finish. When I asked the server about the all-you-can-eat option, he appeared completely uninformed and unable to answer basic questions. We ordered several appetizers but were only brought four very small items—none of which stood out, except for a Doritos chip, oddly enough. Following that, we waited over 40 minutes for our sushi, despite the restaurant being nearly empty with only two tables occupied. When the sushi finally arrived, not only was our order incomplete, but what we did receive was extremely poor in quality. The first bite tasted off—unpleasant and far from fresh. Concerned about the reported $2 charge for uneaten pieces (as mentioned in other reviews), we reluctantly forced ourselves to eat them. Throughout the meal, the server rarely, if ever, checked in. We had to flag someone down just to ask about the missing sashimi. When it arrived, it was somehow worse than the sushi: every single piece had bones in it. Just to confirm it’s a bone not a fiber! It poked my tongue 🤣. When we questioned the server, he casually replied, “Some people like it that way.” I found this response shocking and completely unacceptable. By the end of the meal, I felt physically unwell and nauseated. To add insult to injury, a 15% service charge was automatically added to the bill—despite the near-total lack of service. It’s possible we came on an off night, but based on this experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone. We were genuinely excited to try something new, but unfortunately, this was a regrettable and unpleasant experience from beginning to end. I will not be returning. PS. I was trying to reach out with them on instagram and they blocked me 🥹
What can I say about Kingu Sushi? Well, let’s start with the first thing that comes to my mind after spending almost 2.5 hours gorging out there: WOW! I was a little nervous when we arrived on a Sunday evening and it was nearly empty, but the service was prompt to seat us and take our order. We ordered the rodizio option and the food was very quick to arrive. I’ve had delicious Brazilian Japanese food in Rio de Janeiro and I seriously think Kingu Sushi can compete with even that great sushi and the quality of the ingredients. I will tell all of my Brazilian friends about how great and authentic it is, and I look forward to my next visit!
Food was delicious, did the rodízio premium, lots of variety to choose from. Loved the Joe Joe strawberry and maracujá (passion fruit). The dessert sushi was incredible, both the hot banana Nutella and Doce de leite. Highly recommend to anyone who is a sushi fan, especially if you’ve never tried Brazilian sushi before.
been coming here for over a year now, the atmosphere is amazing, service is 10000/10, and the sushi is out of this world, rodízio is very diverse. claudemir is super attentive and extremely helpful. will always keep coming back
